Xenia Brehmer

March 21, 1935 — June 26, 2023

Xenia Brehmer, 88, Oconto Falls, went to her heavenly home on Monday, June 26, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay.  She was born March 21, 1935 in Richmond, VA to Miles & Mary Louise (Ramos) Sparkman, Sr.

On December 30, 1954 she married Roland (Red) Brehmer, Sr. in Richmond, VA.  They started their lives and family together while Red was stationed in the Navy in Key West, FL eventually moving to Red’s hometown of Oconto Falls in 1957 where they raised their family of four.  Xenia was a devoted mother, homemaker, wonderful neighbor and friend.  She was happiest spending time in the presence of loved ones and especially enjoyed any event that included her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed making homemade dinner rolls for special events and the tradition of making Christmas cookies with her family.  She was a member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW) as well as the church choir and Bible Study group.  Her Christian faith was a top priority in her life.  She was also a member of the Auxiliary Post 302, Red Hatter’s Society and the Performing Arts Center.  She volunteered for American Red Cross blood drives in Oconto Falls.  Most of all she enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends.  New friends and lifetime friends were all held closely to her heart.  Xenia was a caring, dear friend to all and was always putting someone else’s needs before her own.

Survivors are her children: Roland Jr. (R.J.) and Al Brehmer both of Green Bay; Ila (Rick) Tappa, Lena; Tina (Paul) Konkle, DePere; five grandchildren: Amanda (Cole) Slatky, Cecil; Adam (Brittany) Tappa, Shepherdsville, KY; Dylan Konkle, Bend, OR; Trevor (Taylor) Konkle, Suamico; Ally (Cody) Van Rossum, Kaukauna; four great-grandchildren as well as another one due in August:  Mason & Lydia Slatky, Ayla & Sterling Tappa, and Baby Van Rossum; sister-in-law Carol Brehmer, Mosinee; special “sister” Jean Wallace, Richmond, VA; nieces Cathy Schifflett (Goddaughter), Patti Smith, Chesterfield, VA; nephews James Sparkman, Chesterfield, VA, Guy Sparkman, Midlothian, VA; many other nieces and nephews; her cat, Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband “Red” in 2003, five brothers, David, Miles Jr. (Florence), Thomas, Manley and Cabell (Jackie) Sparkman, three sisters, Marie (Terry Sr.) Hadden, Grace (Dick) Trice and Annie (Jimmy) Huff; in-laws, Gus and Ila Brehmer, two brothers-in-law, Gordon (Joyce) Brehmer and Dale Brehmer, great granddaughter, Parklynn Van Rossum and her cat, Boots.

Friends may call at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls after 4:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2023, prayer service 7:00 P.M.  Visitation will continue at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Oconto Falls after 9:00 AM Thursday, July 6, 2023 until the time of services.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. at the church with Fr. Patrick Beno. Entombment in Nicolet Memorial Mausoleum, Green Bay.

The family is deeply grateful to Xenia’s doctors and nurses for the excellent and compassionate care she received at St. Mary’s Hospital.  To the many family members and friends who spent time with Mom, please know how important your visits and conversations were with her.  As her family, we are sincerely grateful to each and every one of you for playing a role in Mom’s life.

Mom, Grandma:  although we will miss you dearly, we know you are going to a better place.  You are now with Dad, Parklynn and Boots.  We are very proud to be called your children.  You may not be here in body but forever in our hearts.  We Love you!  R.J., Al, Ila, Tina, Amanda, Adam, Dylan, Trevor, Ally, Mason, Ayla, Lydia, Sterling, Baby Van Rossum, Rick, Paul, Cole, Brittany, Cody and Taylor.
