Margaret M. Schmidt

October 27, 1932 — August 29, 2018

Margaret M. Schmidt, 85, Green Bay, formerly Kelly Lake and Oconto Falls, died Wednesday evening, August 29, 2018 at Tender Hearts Assisted Living in Howard.  She was born October 27, 1932 in a log cabin to Maurice and Malvina (Monigal) Closser.  Margaret attended Gillett Public Schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1950.

On September 13, 1952 she married Allan “Al” Schmidt at Grace Lutheran Church in Green Bay.  The couple lived in Gillett and Kewaunee before moving to Oconto Falls in 1960.  Margaret worked in the office of Dr. Clyde Siefert for 30 years until retirement.  The couple retired to their home at Kelly Lake in 1999 and just moved to Green Bay in 2014.  She had been a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls and was currently a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Suring.

Survivors are her three children, Deb (husband Timothy Lofgren) Schmidt, Waupaca; Steven Allan (Lori) Schmidt, La Crosse; Sherry Schmidt, Milwaukee; daughter-in-law and special friend, Dana Mrarcek; five grandchildren, Erich Allan ((Robin) Schmidt, Joseph (Megan) Schmidt and Elisabeth Schmidt; Hope (Jason) Rajasinghe and Jin Lofgren-Schmidt; two great grandchildren, Leo John and Catherine Allan; two sisters, Esther Pyter and Dorothy Sylvester, both of Milwaukee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2014, an infant twin sister Marguerite, three sisters, Eileen Brazeau, Kathleen Voelker and Madeline Bach and one brother, Ken Closser.

Visitation will be held after 9:00am Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, 11005 Cty. Rd. M, Suring, WI until the time of service.  Funeral services will be held 11:00am Saturday at the church with Pastor Bethany Rutten-Kempees officiating.  Burial will follow in Wanderers Rest Cemetery, Gillett.

The Schmidt family would like to thank Tender Hearts, Rachel and Chris Goffard, Danielle, and Sergeant Nicki and, Heartland Hospice, especially Jen, Janna and Chaplain John for their care.

Margaret will lovingly be remembered as a kind and gentle caregiver and great cook to all, especially her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends, and leaves behind a legacy of love.
