Leslie Ann (Jossie) Suring, 74, Kelly Lake, died Monday evening, January 8, 2018 at home. The only daughter of Clifford and Gladys (Anderson) Suring was born January 12, 1943 in Shawano. Leslie graduated salutatorian of the class of 1961 from Suring High School. Following graduation, she attended Lawrence College Conservatory of Music and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from UW-Madison while living at Kappa Delta sorority house. She also earned her MSE from UW-Whitewater. Leslie was a certified Reading Teacher, Remedial Reading Teacher and Reading specialist who taught at Blair School in Waukesha and Jefferson School in Janesville before returning to Suring. She worked as editor of education materials for the Migrant Families Title I at CESA 8 before teaching in the Suring School District for 20 years, retiring in 2008.
Leslie was a member of NCTE and Northeast WI Reading Council where she once served as its president. At Suring she led the junior high forensics, guided spelling bee students, accompanied students for music festivals, worked on study skill programs all while encouraging after school reading and promoting reading, especially Dr. Seuss.
She was a member of the Suring United Methodist Church where she served in various roles and attended bible studies through the years. Music was a daily part of her life and upon retirement, played piano for the Hickory United Methodist Church. Leslie also served on the Friends of the Library board and enjoyed the book club and learning. When able, she loved to travel but always felt at home at her beloved Kelly Lake with her dachshunds. Leslie loved her children and grandchildren, knitting them many pairs of slippers over the years, playing cards, attending the 4 th of July Celebration and the Suring Labor Day Parade for memorable family times.
Survivors are her three sons and their families who were the loves and joys of her life, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Jossie and their two daughters Emma and Abby, Plover; Jonathan (Michelle) Jossie and their children Lindsey and twins Katelyn and Nathan, Sobieski; Michael (Dana) and their children Alex and Michaela, New Berlin. “God’s promises are fulfilled in our offspring”.
Visitation will be held after 2:30pm Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Suring United Methodist Church until the time of service. Funeral services will be held 4:30pm Sunday at the church with Pastor Rick Haberland officiating. Burial will take place in the spring of the year in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Suring.
