Leocadia “Katie” M. Metzner, 92, of Oconto Falls, passed away on Saturday morning August 11, 2018 in a local nursing home. The daughter of the late Stanley and Bernice (Hlopek) Masaslanka was born May 24, 1926 in Bessemer, MI. She grew up in the UP. Katie graduated from A.D. Johnson High School, Class of 1944. Following graduation she went to Elgin, IL and worked at the watch factory for ten years.
On June 18, 1955, she married Robert “Bob” Metzner in Bessmer. They lived in Oconto Falls all their married life. She was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Parish, belonged to the Altar Rosary Society, the PCCW, worked for the school lunch program and served funeral lunches for many years. She was a member of the Oconto County Homemakers and the Red Hatters Society. She loved to cook and bake and her creativity and resourcefulness brought joy to her life and others.
Survivors include her husband, Bob, one daughter, Diane Flanagan, Phoenix, AZ, three sisters, Maryann (Al) Sande, Milwaukee, Irene Bonato, Ironwood, MI, Margie Tatch, Iron River, MI, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Edward, John, Joseph and Walter, two sisters, Helen Stanack and Clare Gross.
Friends may call at St. Anthony Catholic church, Oconto Falls from 10:00 to 11:45 am Wednesday August 15, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Wednesday at the church with Father Joel Sember, officiating. Burial in St. Charles Cemetery, Lena. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established to St. Anthony Parish and School.
