Janice “Jan” Braham

May 16, 1939 — February 27, 2022

Janice “Jan” Braham, 82, Gillett, a gem of a person, who saw the magic in all things, died Sunday morning, February 27, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay. She was born May 16, 1939, in Pokegama, MN to Harold and Zua (Harding) Newcomb and was a woman of many talents. Growing up in the land of 10,000 lakes, she performed in numerous ski shows, worked as a lifeguard and was also a synchronized swimmer.  She was very outgoing and had a style that made you smile.  Jan graduated from Moundsview High School in 1957.

She married Duane Braham in 1961 in St. Paul.  They moved to Gillett in 1972 where they raised beef cattle.  Jan worked on the family farm and also volunteered as a 4-H and Girl Scout Leader.  She shared her adventurous spirit and sense of humor with everyone she met.  She was a talented painter that enjoyed being creative with her local painting group as well as Bridge Club, Northern Gardeners, and the Red Hatters. Jan enjoyed hosting their annual family booyah event.  She loved spending time with her grandsons Noah and Aidan making maple syrup, fishing, deer hunting and playing cribbage.

Survived by her two daughters, Jodi Braham and Staci (John) Stary, both of Gillett; two grandsons, Noah (fiancé Nicole) and Aidan Stary, students at UW-Stevens Point; two sisters-in-law, Marsha Newcomb and Carol Smith, MN; one brother-in-law, Al Olson, MN; nieces and nephews, Amy (Matt) and Ryan (Larissa) Olson, Brandon and Tyson Reed; Heather Newcomb and Angela (Neal) O’Reilly; numerous cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duane (2017), two brothers, Gene and Bruce Newcomb and sister-in-law, Mary Olson-Reed.

Graveside services will be held 12 noon Saturday, May 28, 2022, at St. Anthony Cemetery in Oconto Falls with Pastor Mark Kostreva officiating.
