James “Jim” H. Fischer, 78, Lena, died suddenly of natural causes Saturday evening, November 6, 2021. He was born June 3, 1943 in Milwaukee to Carmen Fischer. As a child, he moved to Brillion where he was raised on his grandparent’s farm and attended public schools. As a young man he moved to the Milwaukee area where he drove semi-truck for Schwerman Trucking.
On August 17, 1974 he married Peggy Sommers in Hartford. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Hartford until moving to rural Lena in 1977. Jim drove truck for Tisch & Drews Trucking in Oconto Falls until becoming an owner/operator in the early 1980’s. Along with his wife Peggy, they owned and operated JH Fischer Transfer for many years until retiring in 2012. Even after retirement, the couple enjoyed camping, going to classic car shows and doing things with the children and grandchildren. Jim did continue to help out driving truck after retirement. As a car enthusiast, Jim owned many classic cars over the years, enjoyed following NASCAR and in his early years, racing cars with a friend. He was a lifetime member of OOIDA of independent truckers. Jim will be lovingly remembered for being a devoted and caring son, husband, father and grandfather as family was so important to him.
Survivors are his wife of 47 years, Peggy Fischer, Lena; their children, Terry (Kelly) Fischer, Oconto; Barb (Dan) Guenther, Waterloo, IA; Carrie Fischer at home; Joe (Shirley) Fischer, Marinette; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Amber) Guenther, Brianna (Jeff) Smith and Brandon Guenther and Lindsey, Kayla Gard, Trevor Fischer and Lauren, Alex and Julie Fischer; seven great-grandchildren, Jared, Lauren and Nora Smith, Gabby, Aubrey and Evangeline Guenther and Addlyn Fischer; one sister, Carmen (Wayne) Will, Phoenix, AZ and their family, Paul, David and Andrew Will.
He was preceded in death by his mother and son Lee.
Visitation will be held 3:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Visitation will continue at the Oconto Gospel Chapel in Oconto after 9:00 am Friday, November 12, 2021 until the time of service. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday at the church with Pastor Pete Dorn officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
