Gwen Holtz, 90, Oconto Falls, died Tuesday morning, May 28, 2024 at The Cottages at Meadowlands. She was the only child born July 10, 1933 in Denmark, WI to George and Lulu (Anderson) Andersen. As a young girl, she moved with her parents to Oconto Falls where they ran a Red Owl grocery store.
On May 15, 1954 she married Walter “Bud” Holtz at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls. The couple owned and operated the family dairy farm, which has been recognized as a century farm. Gwen was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls. She was also a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to farming, Gwen loved bookkeeping. She initially started with Wisconsin Public Service, then H&R Block, and eventually Vorphal Bookkeeping. Gwen was most proud of her dedication to the Town of Oconto Falls where she was town clerk for over 30 years. Her favorite past times were square dancing and polka dancing with Bud.
Survivors include her five children, Chad (Cindy) Holtz, Bill (Sally) Holtz, all of Oconto Falls; Jim (Joni) Holtz, Little Suamico; John (Chris) Holtz, Shawano; Sue (“Dime”) Johnson, Sobieski; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren plus one on the way, and her special dog Ole.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 61 years, Bud in 2016, an infant daughter, grandson Troy Bodart, and two sisters-in-law, Ruth (Karl) Schroeder and Louise (Walter) Wudtke.
Visitation will be held after 9:30 AM Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Saturday at the church with Pastor Gary Olson officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
