Dorothy Ellner, 89, Oconto Falls, died early Wednesday morning, May 8, 2024 at home. She was born March 10, 1935 in Oconto Falls to Henry and Helen (Krause) Marks. Dorothy grew up on the family farm on the edge of Oconto Falls, attended Oconto Falls Public Schools and graduated high school with the class of 1953. Following graduation, she went to work at Red Owl Corporate offices in Green Bay.
On September 11, 1954 she married Robert “Bob” Ellner at Grace Lutheran Church in Green Bay and they had five children. Always a hard worker, Dorothy was once employed by the Oconto Falls School District as a teacher’s aide for 17 years as well as waitressed at the local A & W, Ole’s Pizza and later Fred’s Pizza. She also volunteered many years for Oconto County Hearing Testing, the Bloodmobile and served as one of the managers of the local Kingdom Come Food Pantry since 2005. Dorothy also did painting and wallpapering in numerous homes for family and friends. As a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls, she taught Sunday school, served on church council, chaired the fellowship committee, sang in the church choir, played in the bell choir, ushered, served for funeral dinners and once headed a junior choir. She was also known to take care of painting and wallpaper projects at both the church and parsonage.
She is survived by her five children, Susan (Rick) Krumrei, Patti Ellner-Hagans, Quinn (Lisa) Ellner, Randy Ellner and Kim (Mike) Johnson; nine grandchildren, Erika (Dale) Schindel and Maranda (Eric) Kritzeck, Grant Hagans, Pierce (Nicky), Jenai and Josiah Ellner, Zachary (Carissa) Ellner and Marissa (Abhishek) Ellner-THAKAR, Kortney (Adam) Debauche; six great grandchildren, Brynna and Chase Schindel, Drew, Finley, Hank and Piper Kritzeck; two sisters, Ruth Schulz and Judy Moede; sisters-in-law, Karen Marks and Shirley (Gary) Farrell; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, three brothers, Norbert “Nubs” (Marian), David “Homer” and Donald Marks, son-in-law Greg Olson, grandson Drew Olson, daughter-in-law Sharon Ellner, and two brothers-in-law, Mick Schulz and Dean Moede.
Visitation will be held after 9:00 AM Monday, May 13, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Monday at the church with Pastor Gary Olson officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Oconto Falls.
