Denise Wirz

Denise Wirz, 64, Kelly Lake, died suddenly Thursday evening, August 10, 2023 at St. Clare Hospital in Oconto Falls.  She was born August 18, 1958 in Chicago, IL to James and Suzanne (Whelehan) Skoda.  Denise grew up in the Chicago area where she graduated Queen of Peace Catholic Girls High School in Burbank, IL with the class of 1976.  She furthered her education and graduated with her Medical Assistant degree.

On November 24, 1978 she married Michael Wirz at St. Dennis Catholic Church in Chicago.  Following their marriage, the couple lived in the area where Denise worked as Medical Assistant and raised their four children as members of St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church.  In 1996, the family moved to Suamico where Denise continued to be employed as a Medical Assistant.  Because of her husband Mike’s family’s longtime travels to Kelly Lake, Denise enjoyed her close friends at the lake and being part of the Kelly Lake Sportman’s Club, all while tending her large flower garden since becoming fulltime lake residents in 2005.  For the past nine years, Mike and Denise have wintered in Sun City West, AZ where they enjoyed meeting new friends and Denise could stay active in the local gardening club.  Throughout the years, Denise stayed a Chicago sports fan.  She will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved caring for her family.

Survivors are her husband of 45 years, Mike Wirz; their four children, Michael Wirz, Matthew (Heather) Wirz, Lisa Wirz and Katie (Casey) Stodola; five grandchildren, Braeden Banaszynski, Jacob and Lucas Wirz, Bridget and Emily Stodola; two brothers; a special aunt, Bonnie Whelehan; a half-sister, Anne Zimmerman; two brothers-in-law, Robert M. (Debbie) Wirz and Donald (Dawn) Wirz; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, Robert E. and Johanna Wirz.

Visitation with the urn present will be held after 9:00 AM Friday, August 18, 2023 (her birthday) at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls until the time of service.  Prayer services will be held 11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home with Fr. Ben Johnson officiating.
