Craig James Garfield “Moose”, 73, Oconto Falls, passed peacefully Saturday, January 18, 2025, with his youngest daughter by his side. He was born August 6, 1951 in Milwaukee, WI. He worked for Harley Davidson as a timekeeper from the age of sixteen until he later moved to the Oconto Falls area. He graduated from West Milwaukee High School and joined ROTC. He married Lynn Hessil on June 2, 1973, at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls.
He was the purchasing manager for Magna Graphics for almost 20 years. Since 1989, Craig and Lynn owned and operated The Windmill on Highway 22. He also enjoyed working privately as a gunsmith for many years.
Craig loved motorcycle riding and enjoyed his membership in ABATE of Wisconsin. He was also a member of Tavern League of Wisconsin and The District Director of the Wisconsin Jaycees. Other hobbies include gun and coin collecting, shooting pool, trap shooting, throwing darts, golf, hunting, bowling, and weightlifting.
He was most proud of having raised his three girls who regard him as the best girl dad EVER! Craig was an excellent listener and always gave the best advice.
Survivors include his three daughters, Jennifer (fiancé, Matt Cole) Thompson, Kathryn (Curt) Fleener, and Michelle (James VanRixel) Garfield: grandchildren, Nathan (Crystal), Justin (Madison), Julia, Gunder, Brady, Trinady, Kody, and Daniella; great grandson, Hudson; brother, Chris Garfield; sister, Faith (Fred) Honkamp; nephews, Frank (Saffron), John, and Dustin (Amy); and many other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lynn, in 2000; mother, Marilyn, in 2011; uncle, Lee Nelson; and parents-in-law, Fay “Kernel” and Joyce Hessil.
Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church, 501 S. Main Street, Oconto Falls, WI 54154, and will continue Friday, January 24 at church after 9:00 AM until the time of service. A memorial service with the urn present will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 24, 2025 at church with Pastor Gary Olson officiating. Burial to take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
Special thanks to Brad Paitl with the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department and the Oconto Falls Rescue Squad, for assistance at Craig’s home.
The family requests that funeral attire be casual and comfortable, hoping to see everyone wearing something either from The Windmill, flannel shirts, or related to motorcycling, moose or eagles, as he loved both of those animals.
