Clarence C. Werner, 99, Oconto Falls, died May 27, 2024. He was born in the Town of Oconto Falls, December 16, 1924 to Frank and Lavina Werner.
He attended North Morgan Grade School and Oconto Falls High School, graduating with the Class of 1942. He was employed at Scott Paper Company for 38 years retiring on January 1, 1987.
Clarence married Gladys L. Heinemann on May 28, 1949 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Morgan. He was a loyal member of Grace Lutheran Church, serving as an usher, a greeter, and on the church council.
Clarence was an avid reader and sports fan of Packers, Brewers, and UW Badgers football and basketball. He was a member of River Island Golf Club for 35 years.
Gladys and Clarence enjoyed many trips with their family to the western and eastern United States. They also went on many one-day tours to the Fireside in Fort Atkinson and other places. They made three long trips, to western and eastern Canada and, the one they liked most, overseas to Europe where they toured seven countries.
Clarence was a member of Friends of the Arts, Friends of the Library, the Oconto County Historical Society, and AARP.
Clarence is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Kitty Werner, Oconto; grandchildren Jennifer, Chicago, and Matthew (Jen) and great-granddaughter Immy, Oakland, CA; sisters-in-law Arlene Elsea, Corry, PA; Millie Gohr, Sobieski; and Janice Steffel, Oconto Falls; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys, his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest and Mabel Heinemann; sister Florence Fortnum and brothers Frank J. and Fred Werner; sisters-in-law Vivian Werner, Lucille Kolakowski, Irene Allison, and Florence Sternberg; six brothers-in-law Floyd (Jack) Fortnum, Ray Elsea, Clifford Allison, Robert Sternberg, Ray Kolakowski, William Steffel, and Reuben Gohr; two nieces and three nephews.
Visitation will be held after 10:00 AM Monday, June 10, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday at church with Pastor Gary Olson officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls. Funeral arrangements are being made through Jones Funeral Service.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers at The Cottages at Meadowlands and all the staff from Unity Hospice for wonderful care, kindness, and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Grace Lutheran Church in honor of Clarence or to Forget Me Not Fund, which supports local dementia care, in honor of Gladys.
