Bruce G. Gillis

Bruce G. Gillis, 73, of Little Suamico, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. He was born on February 18, 1951, in Oconto Falls to George and Mary (Rhode) Gillis. Bruce graduated from Oconto Falls High School in 1969 and married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Bednarik, on October 18, 1969, in Spruce. Together, they built a life filled with love and raised two sons. 

Bruce worked as a supervisor at a local paper mill for 37 years, where his strong work ethic and dedication earned him respect from colleagues and friends. After retiring, he devoted much of his time to supporting local nonprofit organizations, including the Oconto Area Humane Society, where he served as Board President. Even after stepping down, Bruce remained a devoted volunteer, lending his skills to ensure the animals were well cared for. He also enjoyed his involvement with the Oconto County Commission on Aging and the Oconto Chamber of Commerce. 

A man of many passions, Bruce loved hunting with his sons, trap shooting with friends, and exploring new adventures with Dorothy on their Harley and RV trips. He also found joy in beekeeping, helping on the farm, and attending farm auctions with his brother-in-law, Paul. Bruce will always be remembered for his kind heart, his willingness to help anyone in need, and his unwavering commitment to his family and community. 

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy; his sons, Dan (Cristina) Gillis and Tony (Tamra) Gillis; his sisters, Marlene Jarvey and JoAnne Weaver; his brother-in-law, Paul (Linda) Bednarik; his sister-in-law, Mary (Randal) Martin; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Gillis, and his brother, Lloyd “Pug” Gillis. 

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Jones Funeral Service, beginning at 9:00 AM. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 AM, officiated by Deacon Peter Gard. 

Bruce’s generosity, love for life, and dedication to those around him will leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.
