Bernadine “Berna” Borkovec

Bernadine “Berna” Borkovec, 92, Spruce, died Thursday evening, April 1, 2021 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Oconto Falls with family present. She was born January 24, 1929 to Camille and Octavia (Vandervest) Boulanger Sr. Following graduation from high school, Berna worked as a secretary for a law firm, soft-water company and an insurance agency. As a young lady, she moved with her family to Brookside and eventually rural Lena.

On May 6, 1950 she married Lester J. Borkovec at St. Charles Catholic Church in Lena. Following their marriage the couple lived in Lena before purchasing a family farm which they operated for over 35 years. She was a longtime dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spruce. Berna enjoyed fishing, especially with her father on the Bay of Green Bay as well as camping and sewing. She will be fondly remembered for the delicious foods she cooked, baked and canned for her family.

Survivors are her four children, Larry Borkovec, Spruce; David (Dianne) Borkovec, Abrams; Steve (Valerie) Borkovec, Spruce; Anne Borkovec, Lena; nine grandchildren, Kimberly (Andy) Schaal and Melissa (Ryan) Kimps, Troy Borkovec, Tricia (Adam) Ascher, Tracie (Steve) Hurning and Travis Borkovec, Nicholas (Holly), Nathan and Kaitlyn Borkovec; 14 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Judy Marquardt, Menomonie, WI; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lester on May 18, 2019, one brother, Camille Boulanger Jr., one sister, Marie (Leon) Van Gall, one nephew Donald Boulanger and daughter-in-law Connie Borkovec.

Private funeral services will be held from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls with burial to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Spruce.

Berna’s family would like to thank Atrium Post Acute Care in Oconto Falls for the care and concern shown her during their time together.
