Arnold Johnson, a man who dedicated his life to farming and his family, died peacefully in his home on the morning of Tuesday, November 28, 2023 with his family at his side. Born to Elsie and Gustaf Johnson and raised on the family farm that his father built in Oconto Falls, Arnold developed a deep connection to the land at an early age. He spent countless hours working alongside his family, learning the art of agriculture and the importance of stewardship. After taking over the family farm, Arnold dedicated his life to raising crops and livestock. He was known for his tireless work ethic, strong will, sense of humor, and ability to fix anything.
Arnold met the love of his life, Joyce, at a roller rink where they later spent many of their dates together. Their shared love and knowledge for farming sparked a strong connection and they were married on February 26, 1955. Together they raised 4 children and embarked on a life of love, laughter, and hard work on the farm. They continued the Johnson Family Farm for 41 years together, enjoying the simple pleasures of a country lifestyle including making maple syrup in the spring with their family. Arnold and Joyce were a true team; working together to maintain the farm and taking care of one another through life’s hardships. Arnold was not only a dedicated farmer, loving partner, and devoted father but also a kind-hearted man who enjoyed finding moments for a light-hearted joke or witty remark. Making others laugh and feel good was a natural talent of his.
Survivors are his children, Robert Johnson, Bev (Wayne) Szymanski, Jerry Johnson (Missy), and Donna (Jim) Spang; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; siblings David Johnson and Lillian Friedli; and many other family and friends; as well as his beloved dog, Calla.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Joyce; daughter Diane Marie; parents Elsie and Gustaf Johnson; siblings Carl Johnson, Alma Salesky, Ruthie Nass, Raymond Johnson, Gustaf Johnson, and Leonard Johnson; and daughter-in-law Shary Johnson.
The family would like to thank Unity Hospice who helped make it possible to keep Arnold at home during the end of his journey here on Earth.
For 93 years, Arnold experienced a life well-lived. He enjoyed sharing his love of the country and farming life with his kids and grandkids, making special memories that will never be forgotten. Arnold was hardworking, honest, and kind, all while leaving a trail of laughter in his wake. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and in the fields he so lovingly tended.
